This morning, when I woke Chunguita up, she was still for a bit. My heart just about stopped, but then she rolled over and woke up. I went to make her breakfast, but before I could get to the kitchen, I had to stop, lean against the wall, put my head in my hands, and take several deep breathes. I was starting to hyperventilate and get all panicky.

Then I took the puppers out to the poop area, where Lily peed and got a treat. While I was waiting for Bruno to finish drinking water, so he could go, Lily peed, again, for another treat. She’s a smart girl, saving a bit of urine for another treat.

June 4th is also known as Festival De Crunch, during the celebration it is custom for the Crunchies to go out to eat with their Co-workers.

Back on topic … yeah, right.

Last night, I’m goofing off on facebook, and Pulguito is watching a Star Wars movie in my craft area. All of a sudden, I hear Chunguita screaming and crying. What could possibly be happening, I wonder; after all, Pulguito is no where near Chunguita. I run thru the house and find Lily pinned under DH. DH is scolding Lily (who seems totally unmoved), and Chunguita is crying.

“What happened?” I ask.

“LilyhadBruno’srawhideandItriedtotakeitawayfromherandshegrowledandbitme!” Chunguita cried.

Which explained why DH had Lily pinned and was growling at her. I wondered if he nipped her back. Anyway, DH couldn’t get Bruno’s rawhide out of Lily’s mouth, and after a bit more chastisement, he put Lily outside (aka isolation from the pack). I didn’t think Lily should get to keep the rawhide, so I went outside, pried her mouth open by pinching her lips so that they squeezed under her back teeth which forces her to open her mouth a bit or bite herself, and I took the rawhide away from her.

Poor Lily, she doesn’t understand the pack order in our house. Well, she thinks she should be above Chunguita and Pulguito and Bruno. And, I think, pack hierarchy is determined between the individuals, so she occasionally makes the mistake of asserting herself to Chunguita or Pulguito. Then she gets it from me or DH, and I’m not sure that this really makes sense to her. Ah, well, she did learn that Chunguita and Pulguito get to sit on the furniture and that she does not.

Fortunately, situations like this are very rare for us.

I’ll just chew on this end.

Lily and Bruno both love rawhides. Lily is willing to share. Bruno seems to think that he needs to have all the rawhides; however, in the images below, he isn’t trying to take the new one from Lily. It’s really funny to watch them. Bruno is barely bigger than Lily’s head. Usually, Lily will be lying there, chewing on a rawhide, and Bruno will come up to her, lie down, and start chewing on the other end of the rawhide. Lily will turn her head and switch her paws so that the end that Bruno is chewing on gets moved over to her other side. For Lily, this entails hardly moving, but Bruno can’t reach the rawhide anymore. Bruno will get up and walk around Lily to chew, so Lily shifts again.

When Lily isn’t chewing on a rawhide, Bruno runs around the family room looking for them. He likes to gather all of them for himself, and of course, the one that Lily has in her mouth is much better than any of the other 10 rawhides he might find, he must try to take or chew on Lily’s.

Lily’s reactions are a little different. In this series of pictures, she isn’t sure that it’s okay that he has her old one and she gets a new one. Usually, however, she is happy if she has something to chew on, and she doesn’t care if Bruno has one, too. She shares her toys very well, considering that she has been an only child until now.

Lily is dying to play with Bruno. Bruno is a little overwhelmed by Lily. Lily is rough with anyone she plays with, and that concerns us. She could easily hurt him, and she has pinned him against walls and such. So they don’t get to roughhouse. Bruno has learned that if he lies on his back and completely submits to Lily that she can’t chase him. Mostly, she can’t chase him because he is lying on his back. She backs off, but the minute he’s up and running, she is after him again … until we put a stop to it. I keep hoping that Lily will calm down a bit with him. On the positive side, she isn’t trying to stick her nose under him any more.

Bruno spends much of his time in his run. He isn’t quite housebroken. When he is allowed free run and unsupervised, he will poop in the family room bath or the garage. He and Lily can behave when both are loose inside, and I’ve even caught them lying together on Lily’s bed, but Lily will destroy the house if she is allowed to bomb around in it. She has mostly figured out that if she is too active in the familyroom, she gets put outside. Sometimes, she forgets. But if they are unsupervised, we deem the risk to Bruno too great to leave him out of his run when Lily is inside.

Mama gave me a new one, but I still want that one.

I think Bruno knows his name. He continues to be very cute. He often snorts when he is breathing; he is a French bulldog. The snorting sounds like purring and is very endearing. He loves snuggling.

Chunguita & Bruno

I am a bad blogger. I haven’t really made an update in a while. The big news for us is our new baby. Bruno is a French bulldog. He’s about 5 months old. He is a little sweetie. He snorts when he breathes, and it sounds like he is purring. He’s very friendly and outgoing and seems to like everyone, including Lily.

Housebreaking is going well, as long as Bruno is confined to his run when alone and under direct observation otherwise. He keeps pooping in the bathroom. And he has the occasional pee-pee accidents.

I think he is learning his name. Chunguita adores him, and he adores her.

Lily has a hard time not chasing him, but she’s learning, and she stops as soon as she is corrected. Of course, then she starts again, almost immediately. Lily, also, wants to stick her nose under him and lift him up. I can’t tell if she’s trying to smell him or what. For a while, we couldn’t have Bruno out of his run indoors and Lily indoors at the same time. She is just too big to have running around inside the house, and she wasn’t able to sit still while he bounced around.

About a month ago, DH decided it would be a good idea to let Lily lie on the futon. I heartily disagreed, but the kids were on DH’s side in this. I think that dogs belong on the floor. It maintains their position in the pack. If they are allowed on the soft, comfy furniture with the kids, dogs will start thinking that they have as much status as the kids. Lily was never allowed on the blue loveseat (aka my chair).

Well, Chunguita wanted Alyson to spend the night last night, so while DH was getting things ready, he noticed that the futon was covered in doghair, as were the blankets the kids and he use on the futon. What a shocker!

So, now Lily has a new bed, which she will lose if she eats it and be back on her piece of hard indoor-outdoor carpet, and she is no longer allowed on any furniture.
