Sigh

This is my second attempt at this pattern. Instead of sewing the placket bands on for a placket, I sewed them on like a facing. I’d rip them out, but I snipped into the corners. I decided to turn them and edge stitch them, like a facing. The unfinished top is sitting on my dressform. [...]

Butterick B4986

A long time ago, I made a test version of Butterick B4986 in a polyester silky. This pattern is long out of print, and I had forgotten that I made a test version. I was going thru a file box labeled “WIPs” and found it, made up, with the pattern. I tried it on, and [...]

#149 Long Denim Coat from Burda WOF 4/2004 So, last November (October?), I was going to make a coat. Winter was coming on, and I expected to be able to use a long coat. Well, it’s not really a coat … more like a long jacket. I was going to use that fabulous striped twill [...]

New Dress

Remember this fabric? Dress from BurdaWOF 12-2002 I decided to make a dress from Burda World of Fashion magazine 12-2002 (at right) out of it. I was thinking that a casual fabric would tone down the formality, and I’d have a dress that I could wear to work. I think it worked okay; the dress [...]

A tish of sewing

December 26th, 2014 at 8:25 pm » Comments Off

Hey, look, I made something! Long, long ago, I made my first t-shirt from Kwik Sew 2565. It was okay. I had to do a full bust alteration and add 3 inches to each side of the bust. That was a huge dart. Oh, and the sleeves were too small, and the back got hung [...]

A very bright orange, what? I’m going to make a dress. The pattern is from Burda December 2002. I’ve made it before, as a top, but, alas, no pictures. I couldn’t find any pix on the web of the pattern, and I’m too lazy to take or scan my own.

Fairy Skirts

Chunguita and her friends decided they wanted to be a trio of fairies for Halloween. So after interviewing them, I produced the following excellent design sketch. The one on the left was for Kate; she wanted a puffy, full skirt. Chunguita wanted something more fitted, so I suggested a gored skirt. More detailed design sketch [...]

Great Big Underwear

October 20th, 2014 at 7:49 pm » Comments Off

I like bike short style underwear for wearing under skirts. This is Kwik Sew 2529 OOP. I’ve lengthened the legs several inches and shortened the front rise several inches. I think I’m going to lower the back some.
