Acorns to Oaktrees

February 16th, 2009 at 5:59 am

It’s raining; it’s pouring!

Keeping in mind that Livermore gets an average of 14 inches of rain per year, we have had a tremendous amount of rain in the last couple of weeks. We’ve had almost 1.75 inches (4.5 cm) of rain since the beginning of February. That moved us up to 70% of average for February and 60% for the year. 60% is about 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). That may not seem like much to you-all who live where it actually rains, but it’s huge here. And we drink ground water in Livermore, so it’s even more important for us compared to other bay area water districts that use the snow pack in the sierra for water. Of course, the other districts care about the rain, or rather the snow that it becomes in the mountains.

We have until July to get up to normal, so cross your fingers for us.
