A bit of fitting.

I spent my evenings last week altering Vogue 8070. I traced a 20 on top and a 22 on the bottom. The side panels confused me, so I had to retrace the front and back to get the right size on the bottom.

I sewed the thing up, and with Chunguita’s help, I determined that I needed a 3 inch FBA and had ease at the hips, butt, tummy. The process of adding a dart confounded me. I mean, it’s a standard side dart, but the inset and shoulder pieces complicated things. I decided to leave the front pattern pieces sewn together for the alteration.

It turned out that almost the entire alteration was on the main front piece. The armhole did change, so the shoulder pieces were altered slightly for that. The armhole is higher now.

Unfortunately, the front pattern piece is very large, and it’s too big for my cutting table. I may take Georgene up on her offer of the table extender. I wonder if that will fit in my room.
