The Joann's of New Zealand

Eina likes to make things too, so we visited a couple of stores that feed her habits.

Spotlight is more like Hancock’s or Hobby Lobby than like Joann’s, but since Joann’s is the ubiquitous, crappy hobby store by me, Joann’s gets the comparison.

However, just like I do at Joann’s, I bought fabric at Spotlight. I bought a mesh print that had dressforms on it, and I got 2 New Zealand prints to make campshirts out of. Spotlight was a fairly large store, and they did a have decent selection of fabrics.

We also went to Nancy’s. This is a beautiful store. The selection is not large, but the quality is very high. I was captivated by the needlepoint selection. I found Jen’s Jems to be captivating (more pictures). I spent a very long time looking at them. I haven’t done needlepoint in decades, but this was just too tempting for me. I bought a kit. I’m about 2/3s of the way thru it. I really like these patterns.

I don’t have a picture of Global Fabrics, so …

On our last day in town, we went back to the Cuba Mall to go to Knit World for my mom. She’s an avid knitter. We parked right by Global Fabrics. Knit World was ho-hum for me, but there was a little store with Japanese imports, aka cute stuff, in the mall right by Knit World. I blew a lot of money there.

We stop in a clothing store that sells Icebreaker. Icebreaker is nice stuff. The fabric is a very fine merino wool jersey. It’s supposedly hypoallergenic, so I could wear it. Unfortunately, the sizes didn’t come large enough for me.

On the way back to the car, we stopped in at Global Fabrics. :weird: They had a rainbow of fine merino wool jerseys. And there was a coffee shop next door!

Too bad that I had already blown all my money, and we didn’t have any time because we were on our way to the airport.

Ah, well, next time.
