Getting Grief Right

This is an opinion piece about how the grieving process may not follow the popular path of the stages of grief.

One of the author’s clients thought she should be over the loss of her daughter in 7 months. I was astounded by that. It has been 6 years since Diego died. I can still be stopped in my tracks by grief. And I’m an aunt, not a parent.

I don’t think that I will ever “be over” that loss. I will always be sad that Diego died, and I think that is appropriate.

Please, support those around you who are grieving. They may need a lifetime of support.
